“F**k me in Porsche Cayenne!” “Shame on you” “Voulez-vous coucher avec moi ce soir ?” they shouted in Place des Vosges at DSK’s.
Last Monday, three Ukrainian women activists came to Paris to protest on the front of Dominique Strauss Kahn’s flat and to bring their support to the French feminist movements in their mobilization against the former International Monetary Fund Director-General.
As you know, the one who was near to become the next French president was recently prosecuted for sexual assault against a Sofitel maid in New-York. He was also sued for sexual assault in France against a-32-year-old-journalist, Tristane Banon who decided to complain almost ten years after.
The Femen Movement is much known and very active in Ukraine. I heard about them a couple of years ago when they protested against the political situation in their homeland or recently to protest against sexual traffic during the 2012 UEFA European Football Championship. Their actions may be very impressive or even (very) provocative. Indeed, they don’t hesitate to demonstrate topless to draw the attention more efficiently.
To my mind, I don’t know what to think about this movement even if I was amused and amazed by their provocative action in Paris. Some people might consider these women as mad and they should stay and be focused on Ukraine instead of crossing the continent to make the news. Indeed, I don’t think provocation is the way to defend his point of view. Moreover, it’s quite paradoxical to be topless when you’re supposed to defend the women dignity. Nonetheless, and thanks to this punch, Femen begins to be known and is realizing its objective: creating an international feminist network and a very active movement in the world, although it’s too much ambitious according to me.
Nobody knows if the former Lionel Jospin socialist Finance minister was there when they were demonstrating but I’m sure it would have been very embarrassed by this bad press. Currently, he is even mentioned in a pimping case taking place in Lille (North). For a man who was one of the most powerful men of the world and was expected as the next President of France, it’s embarrassing! Clearly embarrassing!
Btw, the French media hardly dealt with the Femen action (except some news channels), yesterday!
