On this week, the European Parliament hold its last plenary session in Strasbourg, before the next May elections.
Three emblematic MEPs have said goodbye to the Strasbourg hemicycle during this session: Joseph Daul, EEP group leader, Hannes Swodoba, S&D group leader and especially Daniel Cohn-Bendit, EFA/Greens co-leader.
I couldn’t end this week without dealing with Daniel Cohn-Bendit, aka Red then Green Dany, tireless defender of the European integration. On this point, he delivered a vibrant declaration for the United States of Europe, considering federalism should be the next reaching border for the Europeans we are.
Cohn-Bendit was a political symbol during the May 68 student revolts in France, he also became a symbol within the European Parliament. MEP since 1994, he was reputed for his rants but also his hitting speeches and statements, that made him maybe an excessive but a passionate politician.
The European Parliament is going to miss a man who will allow to put this institution into spotlights and which deserves to be considered more, due its more and more important role.
So, thanks a lot Dany and good riddance!
