Jacques Barrot, a humanist and restless European

Jacques-Barrot

Today, I heard Jacques Barrot’s passing away. He was 77.

Former French centrist minister and European commissioner from 2004 to 2009, he was deeply passionate by the European integration.

I did not share the same political idea but he was a well-respected man, tolerant, with deep convictions. Jacques Barrot was sincere and always acted with humanism. By twice, I had the opportunity to listen to his speech in 2009 when I worked within the Socialist and democrat group and then during a franco-german seminar about the Fall of the Berlin Wall twentieth anniversary.

It is an important and considered personality of the French politics who is gone and nothing will compensate this loss. He will be missed by a lot of humanists and Europeans.
